Ken Erdedy is a secondary character in Infinite Jest, a marijuana addict who becomes a member at Ennet House. Early in the novel, Erdedy is the focus of a stream-of-consciousness type passage where he is waiting for a shipment of marijuana in his apartment. The passage at once highlights Wallace's literary talent and examines the mind of a hugely dependent addict. This example is one of the most prominent of Addiction in Infinite Jest, and shows just what abuse of substance can do to a person, especially in terms of mental freedom, control, and Self. Erdedy is also present at the time of Don Gately's shooting.
