this gives me "Goosebumps"

I found an amazingly scintillating plot map of one of those "choose-your-own-adventure" books (and apparently I wasn't the only one to find it :) ) drawn out courtesy of Andrew Stern in a blog post on Grand Text Auto that definitely takes me back to the days of my youth:

Night of a Thousand Boyfriends is certainly a promising title as far as interactive literature goes (the book claims "24 different endings!"), and thanks to all Andrew's tedious work it can be seen that the book indeed does have at least 24 different--albeit lame--endings (abducted by aliens, memory erased, the works).

I don't think I've actually come in contact with a real, live, choose-your-own adventure book since I was eight and obsessed with those specal edition Goosebumps books with the glittery covers in which you can choose your own ending that would either take you back to the beginning or tell you some sort of disgusting slime monster already ate you. I really don't remember.

Anyway, it seems I have been far far out of touch with the new and improved world of interactive media (perhaps because my still-favorite video game is mario bros. on supernintendo and I'm still really bad): video game heroines who can actually get their flirt on . On his site "Save the Robot" Chris Dahlen notes the progress of fictional characters from non-interactive "things you could fall for" to the new and frightening "things that can love you back." Not only can video game characters interact with you on screen, they can flirt, they can hug and kiss, they can have sex with you. Who needs a thousand dates when you have a flirtbot ?

BotJunkie is a website that shows cool (but sometimes useless) inventions that people have made, usually robots. My favorite is a robot called "Dr. Whippy." This is how Dr. Whippy works: "Employing voice stress analysis of the user’s answers to specific questions, varying degrees of unhappiness are measured and the counteractive quantity of ice cream is dispensed: The more unhappy you are, the more ice cream you need.” The other robots are pretty cool too, even if they don't dispense food.
