The Title is a pun on two important Western myths: "Tristan and Isolde" and "Narcissus and Echo." Narrated by Ovid the Obtuse, the story puts characters based on the myths into the context of 1980's television. Sissee Nar, a beautiful and plastic-surgery modified daughter of a TV executive who has never looked in a mirror, becomes the star of a new show called "Beach Blanket Endymion." Sissee's success grows, and soon she is involved in the formation of the Satyr-Nymph network. She becomes the object of Stasis's attraction, and makes Stasis's wife, Codependae, quite jealous. Codependae recruits Carie, Erythema, and nature to help her solve the problem. Together, they conspire to sell Sissee Nar to Reggie Ecko, a Venetian man.
