Occurrences in Wallace's work

  • "Everything is Green"
  • In Infinite Jest, the nature of perception is taken on a physical level through the exploration of various optical perspectives and lenses. It is also explored on a mental and emotional level, as various characters view events completely differently; perception is inherently subjective. For example, when James Incandenza perceives Hal as incapable of communicating with him, Hal believes that he really is communicating with James, and perceives James as simply incapable of listening, and attributes this to James's alcohol addiction.
