Back to Works List or David Foster Wallace

The Pale King is a posthumous unfinished novel by David Foster Wallace that will be published by 2010 by Little, Brown and Company.

According to The Washington Post, the novel's characters are Internal Revenue Service agents working in a Midwestern office who attempt to overcome the "intense tediousness" of their jobs. According to the Post, the story's central theme reflects of Wallace's noted 2005 commencement speech at Kenyon College, in which Wallace encouraged his audience to be "conscious and aware enough to choose what you pay attention to and to choose how you construct meaning from experience."
